Missing notebook after uninstall (LOST?)

Hello,

I use Android (latest version for fold 4 phone).

2 days ago I had notebook in one note that I could not open. It has an important phrase key.

So then online looked and said try reinstall the app. Sadly after doing that it does not show my old notebook.

Checked on mobile device.

Windows 10 app

Web version

Originally it transferred across when I switched from fold 3 phone to the fold 4.

The notebook was from 2020 when I put in the phrase key 🔐.

I have checked in recycle ♻️ bin and cannot find it. It was there 2 days ago but since reinstall gone.

I have also tried restore on the whole mobile device from 1 week of January but hasn't got the notebook file back.

I assumed it would be backed up to the cloud however I can't see anything and doesn't allow notebook to revert back to an earlier date.

Previous versions doesn't show neither but find strange as I have had onenote for a few years now.

One note mobile is updated to the latest version and only shows 2 notebooks that was created by default when reinstalling the app.

Searched onedrive for notebook but only shows newly created ones.

Strange because it must have backed up before when I made switch from the fold 3 phone to the fold 4.

Thanks,

B

    Hello! Baljeet Rana

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

I understand that you're having trouble with your OneNote notebook. If you uninstalled the OneNote app, it's possible that the notebook was deleted along with the app. However, if you had previously synced your notebook to OneDrive, it should still be available in the cloud.

To set your expectations, Microsoft has limited resources involving data loss because they may be caused by uncontrollable factors such as file corruption. Nevertheless, I will walk you through some steps in potentially locating or recovering the data you are contacting us about. Should they still be present on your machine, I assure you that we can recover them; however, should it be otherwise, the least I could do is to provide you some pieces of advice in preventing such predicament from happening again.

    Allow me to ask:

    • Is this happening to all of your files? or just specific file?
    • Are all the files locally saved in your device? or in OneDrive?
    • Have you tried checking it in the https://onedrive.live.com/ ?

To check if your notebook is still in OneDrive, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to the OneDrive website (https://onedrive.live.com/) and sign in with the same Microsoft account that you use for OneNote.
    2. Look for a folder called "OneNote Notebooks". If you see it, click on it.
    3. Check if your missing notebook is in the list of notebooks. If it is, you can try opening it from there.

If you still can't find your notebook, it's possible that it wasn't synced to OneDrive before you uninstalled the app. In that case, I'm afraid the notebook may be lost.

I would suggest to use OneDrive for backing up your notes/files or you can use your PC's storage for backing up your files by downloading it from the https://onedrive.live.com/ so that you will have ways of accessing the file if one of the device will give you some errors in the future.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you,
