Hi GrahamP53, i appreciate your quick reply and your attempt to implement the advice given. I am aware that trying to debug a problem and it still doesn't work can be irritating.

Given that there are two Microsoft Office programmes in Programmes and Features, it makes sense to hold off on deleting the French version. You can proceed with confidence, though, as eliminating the French version shouldn't have any impact on the other Office suite that is installed.

I would advise backing up any significant files or data related to your Office suite before proceeding further to be sure they are protected during the removal process.

Furthermore, would you kindly confirm that the regional settings on your computer are set to English (UK)? Disagreements about regional settings can occasionally cause language problems to continue.

If the problem persists after deleting the French version, you may want to try a fresh installation of Office 2021. To do this, you must first totally uninstall all versions of Office, leaving no trace behind, and then reinstall Office 2021 with English (UK) set as the primary language.

I would suggest contacting Microsoft Support for more help if you're still having issues after attempting these methods. They might have further troubleshooting methods or resources that can assist in fixing the language-related problems you're having.

If you have any more queries or worries, don't hesitate to contact us. We are available to assist you!

    Kind Regards, Saurabh M

Hi Saurabh. Again, thanks for the super fast reply.

I followed your suggestions, and unfortunatley, nothing changed -except I had to rummage around for the product key again.

However, when entered Programs and Features, I have two MS Office programs.

I am reluctant to remove the French one, as I can imagine removing the whole suite in one go.

Even the Main Menu has French elements.

I know I have Google translate to fall back on, but it is tiring. :-(

    Warm Regards

    Graham

    Dear GrahamP53,

I am Saurabh and have taken over the chat and i will further assist you. Thank you for reaching out. I understand your concern about removing the French language from your Office 2021 installation. If the "Remove" button is not visible in the Language options, it might be due to certain restrictions or limitations in the Office application settings.

Here are a few steps you can try to address this issue:

Repair Office Installation: Sometimes, issues with language settings can be resolved by repairing the Office installation. You can do this by going to the Control Panel, selecting "Programs and Features" (or "Add or Remove Programs"), right-clicking on Microsoft Office, and choosing "Change." Then, follow the prompts to repair the installation.

Reset Office Language Preferences: You can try resetting the Office language preferences to default settings. To do this, go to File > Options > Language, then click on "Set as Default" next to the language you want to use. This will set the selected language as the default for all Office applications.

Check System Language Settings: Ensure that the system language settings on your computer are correctly configured. Office may be picking up language settings from the operating system. You can check and adjust these settings in the Control Panel or Settings app of your computer.

Contact Microsoft Support: If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. They have specialized tools and resources to help you with language-related issues in Office applications.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the issue with removing the French language from your Office 2021 installation. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Best regards, Saurabh Mishra Microsoft Support Team

Thank you for your prompt reply. I had already completed all of your suggestions. The developer screen menus and support text are in French, as the previous image shows.

    Hi GrahamP53

Thank you for contacting Microsoft, I’m happy to help.

Did you already configure the display language:

Within any Office application, select File > Options > Language.

Under Office display Language, make sure the display language you want Office to use is listed.

    Office display language

Select the language you want, and then select Set as Preferred. If you want your Office display language to match the display language you have for Windows, select Match Microsoft Windows [Language].

If the language you want is not listed, select Install additional display languages from Office.com and follow the instructions there.

To configure the authoring and proofing language:

Within any Office application, select File > Options > Language.

Under Office authoring languages and proofing, make sure the language you want to use for authoring your document is listed.

    Office authoring languages and proofing

If the language you want appears in the list, select it, and then select Set as Preferred. If the language you want is not listed, select Add a language, and then follow the instructions in the Add an authoring language dialog box.

If the language accessory pack includes proofing tools for that language, its status appears as Proofing installed. If the status is Proofing available, click the link to install the proofing tools.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Regards,

    Shannah
