Applying embedded stylesheet when importing XML data into Excel doesn't do anything

Hello, when I embed an XSLt stylesheet (whether it transforms to an HTML table or to a reduced XML document) into my XML data, Excel will end up with a blank screen after trying to import it with the stylesheet applied.

Elaborating on a stylesheet that transforms into a reduced XML document, when I isolate the stylesheet into a separate xsl file, and have that one applied for import, Excel successfully imports and shows the reduced dataset.

Does Excel not support embedded stylesheets or are there additional requirements?
