"Problem setting up OneNote"

I have downloaded the newest version of Microsoft OneNote and every time I open it, it shows "Problem setting up OneNote" and only has the option to "Close OneNote and Try to Fix". I have tried this several times and it keeps saying the same thing. I am sure that I downloaded the correct software for mac. I have a 2020 MacBook Air. I've updated my MacBook and yes, I do have an office 365 subscription. I don't know what else I could do. Please help.

    Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

    I understand your concern and I would like to suggest you follow the below steps to check the outcome:

    Step 1: Quit Office apps> Open the Finder> Applications> Right-click on the Microsoft OneNote> Move to Trash> Go to Trash and remove the deleted OneNote app permanently.

    Step 2: Open the Finder> Click Command + Shift + G> Enter ~/Library/Containers > Scroll down to Microsoft OneNote and move it to the Desktop folder.

    Step 3: Restart your Mac> Access Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn and download the OneNote package of version 16.81 (24011420) > Install the downloaded OneNote package.

    Step 4: Open the OneNote app> Sign in with your Office 365 account and check the outcome.

    If still the same problem persists, please use License Removal tool to remove the Office license files on the Mac and reactivate the Office apps to check the outcome; reference: How to remove Office license files on a Mac (microsoft.com)

    If nothing works, we apologize and would like to confirm whether the problem started after you install the Office apps or after any recent Office apps update?
