Every time I open Excel I get an error message saying:

"We're sorry, Excel has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Excel will need to be closed as a result."

"Would you like us to repair now?"

and then the options:

"Repair Now" "Help" "Close"

I have tried the repair now function multiple times to no success and I don't know what else to do.

    Dear respected Jack Schriner,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I’m sorry you’re having a problem with but based on your description we can work together to resolve it.

For the situation you encountered, we deeply understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

As per your description, clicking on "repair now" in an error message will not work, instead of clicking on option "repair now", if possible, could you please tryrepair an Office application to fix the problem.

Also, you can uninstall Office 365 completely by using Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) as uninstalling Office through Control Panel > Programs & Features would keep some preferences for next installation.
    Then re-install Office.

If above doesn't work from your side, then I think this issue might be raised by your local environment (Settings, Registry).

Given this situation, I would suggest you follow the methods below and see if they could help in your scenario:

1.Perform aClean Boot under your Windows, and check if issue persist.

2.Maybe the local settings had affected the application. Thus, we would like you to check whether the issue is related to your user profile. In this situation, we suggest you Create a new user account under your Windows(for test purpose). See if it still alerts you with the same error message. It is worth trying because it will help you narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile.

We appreciate your understanding that sometimes the initial suggestions may not resolve the problem very soon. However, we can work together to narrow down and resolve the situation. So, please kindly provide more information below to let us work further.

    1. Is this a problem with all Excel documents? Or some specific documents?
2.Screenshot of your Office version: To check version: Open any Office e.g., Excel>File>Account>Product Information (Please mask your private message for protecting your private message)

3.Confirm whether other applications also get the same problem? Such as PowerPoint or Word and etc.

4.Does this issue happen to new created files?

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Waqas Muhammad
