I'm getting this error when I try to share a certain file with members of my organization. I'm able to share other files in the same directory and I'm also able to add user access to the site in total.

What could be causing this file to be unshareable?

It seems that in SPO if the Site Collection Feature "Limited-access user permission lockdown mode" is Active... it will give this issue when getting a link for MS Forms. Wonder if there is a similar or relevant setting for the content you're sharing as well.

This has been happening to us for a range of OneDrive for Business folders and files. The problem occurs within the Office app, online, and in Windows Explorer. Sporadically, sharing will start working, then stop again.

Hi, no response from MS on this? Still happening in July... user cannot share any docs "error creating link, please try again later". How much later, weeks, months or years? ;)

    Hi John,

According to your description, the situation happens when sharing a specific file. Before providing suggestions, I would like to collect more information about the situation.

    1. Since you posted the thread under the SharePoint category, I suppose the file is stored in SharePoint. If so, I would like to confirm how you share files with other users.

Do you go to the SharePoint library in the browser, select the file and click the "Share" button to share files by the links? If not, please point it out and let us know.

    1. Since the situation only happens to a specific file, what if you create a copy of it, then try to share the copy with one user, does the error message appear again?
    2. Please take a full screenshot of this error, and then share it with us. You can click the "Insert Image" button to upload it again.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator
