More info is required. What file are you trying to open? You referred to a work group file. Is this an mdw file? If so, you can't open one directly. Where did you get this file from? What happens when you try to open it.? If you want help you need to supply details.

In addition to answering Duane's, tell us the version of Access you have and whether the existing Access files are .mdbs or .accdbs.

Why do you mention an "Access database engine work group file"?

Do you get an error message?

Do you have MS Access installed?

Can anyone else open the existing files?

Hi, I am a Microsoft user just like yourself and I will try my best to help you as much as I can today.

Check File Permissions: Make sure that you have the correct permissions to modify the database file. If the file is in the cloud, check security settings. If it’s local, grant the user “Everyone” permission to test if this resolves the error. Confirm that the file is not already opened exclusively by another user.

Close Other Applications: Close any other applications that might be using the file. Make sure no one else is accessing it at the same time.

Repair the File: Run a repair tool on the file to check for any errors and fix them if possible

Running an Access database through a VPN or similar setup can be unreliable

VBA Code Issue: Review your VBA code for any issues. Make sure that the macro is not opening a copy of the same workbook as read-only.

See if that helps! Please let us know if you have any questions. Microsoft Support is available for further assistance if the issue continues.

    Best regards Deeksha
