Pivot table filter is not grouping dates

I have searched for an answer on this but have not been successful.

In my data I have a column of dates, I have checked this is in date format (not text) and when you filter the column, it groups correctly:

The same column of data (due date) is included in the filter of the Pivot table, but the dates are not bring grouped?

I would be most grateful if you can suggest ways to fix this so I can group by year/month?

    As far as I know, Excel does not group the dates in a report filter. It can group the dates in a row field or column field, but not in a filter drop-down.
