    Dear Rome,

    Thanks for your updates.

If you are using Office for Windows, may I know whether you set your work or school account ******@contoso.com as the default account in your Office applications? If no, click on Switch account in the Office applications to set it as the default account as follows.

After you do that, you should be able to open the files from Office for the web with the Office applications directly at your side.

Welcome to share any updates at your convenience.

Thank you for your effort and time.

    Sincerely

    Dear Rome,

If you are using Office for Windows, you should be able to click on Account>Switch account to set the work or school account as the default account of the Office applications.

If you encounter some issue, there should be a account credentials issue in the Office applications.

I suggest you log out of all accounts>close all Office applications>clear prior activation information manually via the steps in Reset activation state for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise - Microsoft 365 Apps | Microsoft Learn>restart the computer>log into the Office applications with your work or school account>then log in with your personal account and switch the account and then do a test again at your side to see and let us know the outcome.

When you open the files from SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business, the files should be opened with the work or school account.
