Hi, I am using the SharePoint library with

  • Some more columns.
  • On every edit in columns after uploading a document.
  • Some tasks are updated with Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Making the new version of my Document so it is causing a size issue.
  • How I can stop SharePoint from creating a new version of the document?
  • I found that SharePoint does not allow this.
  • I also can not delete all versions in bulk it is allowing one-by-one document.

Please guide and suggest.

    Dear Arif,

    Good day!!

I understand your concern and to my knowledge, I would like to convey that every change made either in the column of the Library or content in the file will create a new version and currently there is not out of the box feature in the SharePoint Online to turn off the version history unless to limit the version history to 100.

I agree with you having the ability to disable the versioning history or limit the version history to 10 instead of 100 in the SharePoint Online site will benefit the users and I request you to add your valuable idea or feedback in the SharePoint · Community (microsoft.com) which is the best place to share our ideas and improve the Microsoft products.

**Moreover,**I have done some search where I noticed we can disable the SharePoint Online version history on the document library using the custom PnP PowerShell command. So, I request you to give a shot by posting your concern in the SharePoint developer community i.e., SharePoint Developer - Microsoft Community Hub to get the opinions from the experts.

In addition, I found a third party article with the custom PowerShell script or PnP PowerShell script, and I request you to search for “Disable version history in the SharePoint Online

Note: To run the PowerShell command, you need to be the SharePoint Online admin and if you are not the SharePoint Online admin of your organization, please connect with the admin of your organization and request them to test it on a test environment library and once it’s succussed, they can implement on your library in SharePoint Online.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
