How do i get default excel gridlines back?

Recently both my work and personal 365 accounts have experienced the same issue, new excel workbooks and sheets have no gridlines.

I can navigate to Options > advanced and change the colour from automatic white to black but then they are dotted lines and revert back on any new sheet or workbook.

I have followed multiple articles on this same issue but to no avail, registry editor doesn't solve it and I am unable to locate my XLstart folder on either machine.

The issue seems to be that the automatic gridline colour changed from grey/black to white at some point and changing this leads to a dotted line. I presume this is due to a lack of a default workbook in my non-existent XLStart folder which I can't find a resolution for online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

**Nevermind.... I have discovered this is caused by the contrast on my monitor being too high. I feel stupid but hopefully someone else out there has the same issue and this can help them, making me feel less stupid.
