Hello Hasti.p,

Welcome to Microsoft community!

I understand that you are experiencing a footnote misalignment issue while editing with Word, and I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We have also received feedback from users of such problems, through the following ways can be resolved, you can try to troubleshooting:

1. Try to go to the ‘Citation’ tab in the ribbon, and then click the ‘Dialogue Box Launcher’ in the lower right corner of the ‘Footnotes’ section of the ribbon, and change the ‘Number’ format, and then click ‘Apply’. Then change the number format back to its original form and click Apply again.

2. Compatibility issues: It is recommended that you set up the following, click File - Information - Convert Compatibility Mode, and then set up a footnote citation format, click Apply.

3. Save a separate docx copy of the original file and open the copy file.

If the problem still occurs, if it is convenient, you can share your file via private message, we will help you do further testing:

You can send private message through the Messages link at the top right of the page.  Check your sent PM by going to My Profile, and then selecting View private messages on the left pane of your profile page.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks for your support and understanding.

Best regards

In your sample file I am seeing footnotes numbered 1 through 10. But see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/the-problem-of-marginalizing-references-with-the/e0e592ea-5a6c-49e6-80f4-744c2a45c96f which does show multiple 8s.
