Saving an Excel Workbook with a New Name

I need to save an Excel workbook to send out to co-workers. The workbook has a lot of formulas in it. If I save the Excel workbook that I send out with a new name, will that protect my formulas in my original Excel workbook? I don’t want my co-workers to change anything.

    Dear Cheryl BAC

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

Regarding your question, saving an Excel workbook and assigning it a new name does not affect the formulas in your original workbook. Renaming only changes the identification of the file on your computer and does not modify the contents inside the file.

If you don't want your colleagues to change the contents of your workbook, you can save the file in "read-only" mode before sending it. This way, your colleagues will only be able to view the contents of the workbook and not edit it. This will ensure that your formulas and workbook structure remain intact.

You can send a read-only file by following these steps:

    1. On the File menu, clickInfo.
    2. Click on Protect Workbook and select the Always Open Read-Only.

We hope that the above information will be helpful to you. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Thank you for your patience!

    Have a great day!

    Best Regards,
