How do I prevent my images from being compressed in PowerPoint when I'm working in OneDrive?

I often construct and edit my education PowerPoints while working on the files in OneDrive. When I upload a good quality image, it appears blurry on my slides. I know that I can change the settings under options and advanced features while working offline, but is there a way to do it in the file that is in OneDrive? I like the convenience of having autosave while editing the file in OneDrive.

Unfortunately, this is only an option when you download the file and work offline. I am looking for an option to enhance the images while working in Microsoft PowerPoint online. As you can see in my image, this is not an option. There are no options when I click on the file tab.

Hey Jacki - coming in with this answer late but if you can save your images as a SVG (scalable vector image) (can be done by pasting into PowerPoint version 2020 or later and saving as picture) this will help correct resolution defects in your onedrive file.

    Hope this helps!

I just tested using an SVG and it preserved the sharpness of text, but the images on the slide were rendered even blurrier than with the regular compression.

That won't work at all. There must be a better way...

So - you are saying that some pictures will be blurry no matter the original size and resolution? I am having a very hard time with having some pictures uploading - they are blurry no matter the original file size.

(png and jpg -- they have graphics and text and pictures on them, used high res original files, made them in canvas to be a huge file size originally)

any other hints on getting some uploaded files not to be blurry and bitmapped?

    Dear Jacki Smith,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft community. We are delighted to offer our assistance.

There is a way to prevent your images from being compressed in PowerPoint when working in OneDrive.

    1. Open your PowerPoint file in OneDrive.
    2. Click on the "File" tab in the top left corner of the screen.
    3. Click on "Options" in the left-hand menu.
    4. In the PowerPoint Options dialog box, click on "Advanced" in the left-hand menu.
    5. Scroll down to the "Image Size and Quality" section.
    6. Under "Image Size and Quality", select "Do not compress images in the file".
    7. Click "OK" to save your changes.

This will prevent your images from being compressed when you save your PowerPoint file in OneDrive. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! Have a great day.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Jacki,

Just as you noticed, PowerPoint for the web doesn't have such option on picture quality. If you want to have full functionality of PowerPoint, you will need to use desktop version.

Here is the feature difference comparison article (Updated: April 19th, 2022): Compare PowerPoint features on different platforms - Microsoft Support

Hope the information is helpful to clarify the difference.

    Regards,

    Ryan
