One Drive Syncing Issues

I'm having issues opening and saving documents in both MS Word and Excel that are synchronized with One Drive. Frankly, this is very frustrating as I was never prompted to sync with OneDrive, but now that I am I am experiencing issues. I'm worried that my files will become corrupted or not capture my updates if this ever gets resolved.

Let's start with MS Excel. I am getting the following error. If we can figure this out, we can then move onto the issues with MS Word.

"This file has been renamed. We recommend saving it now to get the new name"

With the error, I am given two options: "Save" or "Later"

If I click save, even though I've changed nothing, it appears to save, although when I open the file again I get the same error.

If I click later, I get another prompt at the top of the window to save with the message "We need you to save the file to finish renaming it. Add-ins and VBA might not work correctly until you save".

I haven't updated this file in years, and this is very disconcerting. I expect more from Microsoft.

PLEASE HELP!

    Hello DSmith_228.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to learn that you are facing a document failure issue and I understand your anxiety very well.

Have you been able to find your document in OneDrive?

Considering that your document is not saving properly at the moment, in order to protect the data in it, I would recommend saving the document as a new one or manually copying the data into a new one.

In addition, you mentioned that you are also experiencing problems with Word, is this the same problem as in Excel? Since you haven't edited this document for a few years, there may be some compatibility issues with older file types. If possible, you can also share the file you are experiencing problems with us via private message and we can help you troubleshoot the problem.

Your files are collected for analysis only, we will not disclose your private information, but we still recommend that you dispose of any private content that may be in it.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

    Best Regards
