I am having a problem with the index for a book. I am using a concordance file to make the index.
I am going through the index to make sure that the index entries are correct. I came across one entry that was not correct, so I decided to delete it.
I went through the Replace using the field combined with XE and deleted all of the fields in the book. Please note that was about the tenth time I went through this process to get other index entries correct. I thought I would be able to replace all of the fields and the index.
But when I put the concordance in (with the fields turned on), Word gave me a message that “no index entries were marked.” I made a small “book” two paragraphs long with two index entries in it. I made a concordance with those two entries in it, and everything was working fine.
I went to the other book and tried it again. It still did not work. The book is about 370 pages long. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I messed the book up or how to fix it? I’ve tried everything I could think of.

Well, the system showed me the bar, and I put in the concordance, but when I tried to put in the book, it told me that it is too big - it wouldn't accept it.
Again, a concordance is likely to over-index your document. However, that is what you want to do...
Try splitting your concordance up into several smaller documents/tables. Run the command consecutively on the various concordance files. Each time it creates the index, it will preserve the marking of any entries you have already marked.
Keep backups.
I have tried to drag the file over to that spot where it tells me to put it, but it then asks where do I want it? I also looked at my profile to see if I could see "View private message," but that wasn't there.
Thank you for helping me to understand, but I must be a little dense. When I copy the document and try to paste it where the private document is supposed to go, the system asks me to tell it where the document is supposed to go on my system. When I want a private document to go to you, do I paste it in by the name or what?

I understand that you are getting an error when using the Replace Index Entry field in the long file, and you are getting the message “No Index Entry Marked”. And you have this function working fine in small files. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.
In order to avoid giving you duplicate steps, could you share with me the fixes you have already tried?
Also, in order to better understand your problem and the error you are experiencing, would it be convenient for you to send me the relevant file? As the forum is a public platform, to protect your privacy, you can send me the file by private message.
Steps to send a private message:
