OneNote synced old version

Hello,

I switched PC to a temporary one. OneNote synced data only until 08/2023, however I was using OneNote also after this period (even last week).

  • I tried closing the OneNote books and reopen them.
  • I tried to use the "View Sync Status" button. Here the system tells me, that everything is synced.
  • I tried to restart PC several times.
  • I tried opening the OneNote books via different options (browser, app)

I have the OneNote saved on my OneDrive. I am using a MS account provided by a company.

Thank you

    Dear Daniel K.1

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. I am happy to help you

Normally, even if the device is different, the system will not affect the syncing process, and if there is a problem with the sync, the OneNote app should show a message.

How can this be avoided in the future?

If you can't confirm whether the data is synchronized, visit OneNote on the web to check whether the data exists. If the web client exists, your data will not be lost.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Tin | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Hello,

    That sounds "great".

I already had to switch to a temporary laptop in the past. I have never had this issue, worked always like a charm. I am not aware of any settings change ever since.

I thus consider this a huge flaw from MS, that the system inconsistently decides to stop syncing (reason unknown to me...). A person looses this way 6 months of work inside OneNote.

How can this be avoided in the future?

Sounds like your former PC hasn't synced to OneDrive. At first you should look in OneNote Online (as Tin suggested) what status the notebook has there. If outdated you have a serious problem because current data are only on your former PC.

That means your problem is there, not on your temporary PC.

    Dear Daniel K.1

    Good day!

OneNote itself is stored in OneDrive, so you can go to OneDrive Web to see if your data exists. You can visit the Office portal, log in to your account and click OneDrive to see if your notebook exists in OneDrive on the web side.

If there is also a discrepancy in the data on the web side. You can try restoring your OneDrive to an earlier point in time to see if it helps you get your files back: Restore your OneDrive - Microsoft Support怂

    Thanks for your cooperation.
