Why Excel Keeps Asking to be Default Program?

Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.3880)

MS Office 2013 Pro Plus

Why does the warning "Microsoft Excel isn't currently your default program for viewing and editing spreadsheets. Do you want to select file types that Excel should open? Don't show this message again"

constantly appear when I start Excel, despite the fact that Excel is set as the default application for all possible file extensions associated with Excel in Settings - Apps - Default Apps?

Of course, I can select "Don't show this message again" or uncheck "Tell me if Microsoft Excel isn't the default progam for viewing and editing spreadsheets." in Excel - File - Options - General - Start up options, but this is not a solution.

I don't understand why this warning "Microsoft Excel isn't currently your default program for viewing and editing spreadsheets. Do you want to select file types that Excel should open? Don't show this message again" appears, although Excel is actually the default application. This pisses me off like crazy.

Have a look at the reply by nethmin chamika at the following link on this forum. You might need to delete the key from the Registry as per nethmin chamika's last suggestion in the reply.

Have you found a solution to this? I also constantly get this for all MS Office apps and it drives me crazy as well. Started after I upgraded to Windows 11 (previously Win 10). Win11 put that Offce365 suite on the system and I had to remove it since it was taking precedence over the current version of Office I had installed. Now can't get this message to stop even though I made Excel (and others in the suite) default.

Have you looked for another (different) app that has the Excel file extensions as the default app? It could be overriding the Excel defaults.
