Suddenly can't save document files

Split from this thread.

The "can't save" issue started happening to me today. And yesterday I was unable to open files of mine that were any where from a few months to a year old. Will the above solve both problems?

And why is this problem even happening?

    Hi Holly,

    I split your reply off and turned it into a question because it does not seem related to the topic you replied to.

    What version of Word do you run? Use the Menu Bar and choose Word > About Microsoft Word to display the version information and license type. What does that dialog tell you?

    Did something change today on your Mac? Install an update or add-in?

    What steps are you taking to save your files? Exactly what is the error message (if any)?

    Did you try simply restarting your Mac?
