How do I hide the auto-correct button while typing in Word?

This thing keeps appearing and turning it off in word auto-correction options does not seem to work.

    Hi Bob,

    Gunaseeker's already been told about posting nonexistant user interface elements so now I just delete those crazy replies.

    Perhaps your reply is appropriate in Word for Window but it is of no use to a Mac user. Only the article addresses Mac, your instructions do not. Please revise your reply accordingly.

    Which button (pop-up) are you referring to, specifically? For example, do you mean the button shown below (for the specific situation when a series of asterisks is converted into a border line)? Note that the screen shot is from Word for Windows.
