Online version of excel table functionality broken ?

Hello,

I encountered this issue with the online version of excel and Tables

Entering data into first empty cell under Excel Table (ex. if Excel Table is A1:D4, this cell would be A5) does not extend the Excel Table range one row down.
This means that formatting and column formulas do not go over to the new row. And this is breaking the whole build of my excel file witch was made to be user friendly for users with no excel knowledge .

the sheet or workbook is not protected

This only happens in the online version of excel.
if i open the same file on the desktop app it works perfectly.
but it looks like the online version does not work as intended with the table functionalities.

is this something i can fix or should i accept that web version is simply inferior ?

    Ok, thank you.

Sadly this does not really help me
because this way the user does not get the dropdown list or input message to guide them when inputting the date for the new row.
So it would be useless for my file as the whole thing was set up to help the user select the right items and also would only show the items that were available in the dropdown. It filters out any items already selected in previous rows that had not yet been fully returned. In other words They select an item they are assigning from the list and until this item has been marked as returned it would no longer appear in the list so they could not assign it again by accident until then.

There are some other things happening but this example already shows the reason why it needs the validation.
And again in the desktop version it works it is only a problem for online version.

So indeed with restricting the data validation, the table functionality works better but every other functionality that I build in the file gets broken :-/

    Thanks anyway.

Really sad the online version does not work the same way as the desktop version. Would have expected both applications to work similarly for the same functionality but looks like i will have to tell my users that they must use the desktop version.
this is going to be a problem though since not all of them have this.

Could you share a test file to reproduce your issue?

You may upload file in private message.

Hi thank you for your reply,

here is the build we use for the om online version of excel 365

We tried on several machines but always the same issue and this is normal because the problem happens in the online version of excel.
Similarly when using the desktop version of excel on different devices it always works perfectly.

The problem is that not every one in the company has license for desktop version so some can only use the online version.

    For example :
in this table I want to enter a new value in the field F8 in the column "Badge nr"

when I do this on the desktop app you can see the table automatically expands including formatting

and thanks to column formulas in the table the next two fields are automatically filled in.

but if I do the same in the online version nothing happens.
the table does not automatically expand and therefor the formatting and the formulas do not happen on the new row.

Here is my test. I cannot reproduce your issue at my side. Have you tried it on another machine?

Could you also share the Excel online Build? If it is bug on special build, it will be fixed by Microsoft soon.
