Microsoft Excel does not remember Restore Down window size

This is driving me crazy. I have set sizes I use for my windows as I always have a lot open at once on screen. My Excel has always worked perfectly until 2 days ago when the Restore Down no longer goes to the size I have set. It leaves a gap at the bottom the same size as the task bar. The only thing that happened was that I accidentally pressed something on my keyboard a couple of days ago that made my taskbar double height. I couldn't figure out how to change it back (not having a clue what keys I'd leant on) so Googled it and found instructions to simply drag it back down to the right height. Ever since then, the gap has remained. I drag my Excel screen to the correct size, do some work, save etc, then maximise it to see more of my spreadsheet, and when I then restore down again, it leaves that annoying gap at the bottom.

What on earth have I done and how can I fix it please? The only instructions I've found relating to this are so old that they don't apply. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. It does exactly the same with Windows File Explorer so it must be a Windows related issue. I'm on Windows 10 desktop and using MS Office 365. Many thanks. :)

Hi there, no, that doesn't work. There was one small comment from another user that does work, sort of. If I make sure the window doesn't snap to the bottom task bar and leave a tiny gap, it remembers the size. This is ridiculous though as I have never had this issue before. I could always drag my windows to any size I wanted and they would remain. It took a few attempts to get it to a reasonable size so it'll have to do. But something has still changed and I'd dearly love to know what so that I can change it back. :)

Update: I've solved it! I turned off snapping in Settings/System/Multi tasking. Now it's working as it used to again. Phew! I have no idea how it got turned on given where it is but maybe there's a keyboard shortcut I managed to hit when I accidentally leaned on my keyboard the other day. :)

    Hi ,VintagePrints

    Welcome to Microsoft community!

I understand that you are having problems controlling the size of your Excel window and I understand what a hectic task it is to set the window size every time.

I understand that your problem occurred after you modified the taskbar height, and this problem may be due to Excel modifying the default size of the window after the taskbar height was modified.

For anyone who is in a similar situation to yours, please check out the method at this link:Change Default Window Sizes in Windows 10 - Microsoft Community

Could you please let me know if your default window sizes have been changed after you followed this post, and, I would like to see the page where you got the error, which will help us to assist you further.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Best Regards,
