How to create Microsofts .mun compression to create compressed .mun files?

Hello. More advanced users like myself are trying to inquire on how to create windows compressed .mun files.

For example under C: Windows/SystemResources you will see many mun files

We are able to edit a .dll.mun file but we can not re-compress it to windows standards.

Is there any documentation on how to perform a mun compression on windows? If not can you provide steps here?

A quick side note: This is an advanced topic and we aren't interested in debating wether files like these should be edited or not. The associated risks are no problem for our enviroment. Please stay on topic if possible.

Just started looking for an answer to this as well, sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I'm trying to figure this out myself and I'll try and get back to you when I figure it out.
Took a break from Windows development for a long time and now I'm back so this was somewhat new to me... I think this is a source of issue for shortcut icons not displaying well when used with the old fashion plain DLL way. The same icons display fine when used with the direct source of the same .ico files, but not when sourced from a library they are small; seems to be using only a certain range of the smaller ones The icons in some of the current resource .mun files seem to go by the sizes 16 20 24 32 40 48 64 for icos and then a 256 (BMP? or PNG?, haven't discerned yet, there's no extension and it works either way and I haven't used a tool to detect yet) image and I haven't looked into their corresponding source DLLs so see if they have matching images. I imagine so, haven't made it that far yet.
