    Dear respected Emma,

Good day! Thanks for posting in our community.

We went through your post carefully and we understand the scenario you are facing that when select an item in this SharePoint list, it will automatically appear an empty field below the item row. Please let me know if I made any misunderstanding. And to offer you the correct guide to resolve this, could you please share us some more details as troubleshooting steps below?

    1. It seems like you have checked on two browsers while the same behavior persists, so could you please confirm with other site members and let them check if the same behavior will happen on their sides? This can help to narrow down the issue to the list itself or specific environment.
    2. Generally, we will suggest creating a brand-new list to see if the same issue will happen but for your scenario, I think it would be better to test with reproducing a same list so that some column settings in backend will be inherited which can make us locate the issue cause more efficiently. For reference: Duplicate a list in Sharepoint Online. - Microsoft Community
    3. Could you also share some more screenshots like when you click Edit in grid view and showing the rest columns contents?

We appreciate your kind patience and understanding that sometime the initial reply may not resolve the concern immediately or there may have some misunderstanding about your scenario, but we would like to hear the updates from your side and let's figure out the further suggestions.

We'll be here for you to wait for your updates. I appreciate your time and effort on checking these above and thank you for your time and cooperation. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Mia | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Dear Mia,

Thank you for your kind reply. In the first paragraph you caught the essence of the problem. Thankfully, I found a post which said I needed to manually refresh the page and that seems to have resolved the problem. I hope this step will not be required every time I access the list.

The steps you recommended are a lot of work. I don't know if I have permission neither I have ever created a list. But the link you shared to duplicate a list in Sharepoint is a good start. Though I'm not assigned to work on Sharepoint lists, it is a good resource for when I run into technical difficulties again.

Lets please close this inquiry now that my issue was resolved with a manual refresh of the page.

    Regards,

    Emma

p.s. the site https://www.office.com/sharepoint-help/  appear offline. Is there another site for video tutorials on creating lists?
