A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hello Susan,
Are you using the desktop application or the browser Word program?
Paragraphs are shown in the Navigation Pane based on the outline level of the paragraph.
The built-in headings have such outline levels, The Normal style and Body Text Style and most others do not.
Click, in the body of your document, on something appearing in the Navigation Pane that should not be there.
What is the paragraph style applied to that text?

- Outlining in Microsoft Word
- Headings that do not show up in the Navigation Pane or in a Table of Contents (or in Cross-References / Hyperlinks) (the opposite problem from that you are having.)
