I'm using Excel. Trying to make a budget. I have 12 columns with all the months. I have one column with the budget amount listed. I want to compare the actual amount spent each month with the target budget and if it's over that amount highlight that amount in red. I tried to copy one formatted cell to all other and I can't get it to work properly. Please help.

Microsoft changed the default theme of Microsoft 365 apps a few months ago. Aptos Narrow is now indeed the default font in Excel.

Could you create a stripped-down copy of the workbook demonstrating the problem (without sensitive information) and make it available through one of the websites that let you upload and share a file, such as OneDrive, Google Drive, FileDropper or DropBox. Then post a link to the uploaded and shared file here.

    Try the following.

    Select K6:K36.

On the Home tab of the ribbon, select Conditional Formatting > Manage Rules...

    Delete the existing rules.

    Click New Rule...

Select 'Use a formula to determine which cells to format'.

    Enter the formula =$J6>$G6

    Click Format...

    Activate the Fill tab.

    Select red.

Click OK until all dialogs have closed.

Thanks for asking. I condition format The first line item in Jan with the formula =J6>$G6 format the cell to fill with red. I always want to compare the current cell to the "G" column because that is the budget column. I then try to copy the formula all the way down the "J" column with the copy and paste formula option. What results in the copied cells is the exact same formula is pasted "=J6>$G6" which doesn't work for cells K7 thru K36. They all have the same exact formula which is wrong.

    Thanks for your help HanV
