Getting "Sorry, Excel can't open two files with the same name at the same time" error whenever I open any xls file from Teams

Every time I open ANY xls file from Teams I get this error message "Sorry, Excel can't open two files with the same name at the same time". The file still opens but with Autosave OFF, and if I try to turn it ON, it will me ask to save the file to my computer.

However, I open xls first, and then go to Teams and open the file from there, the error does not appear, the file opens, and Autosave is On.

Could you share us a screenshot of your teams settings for File open preference? You may try another one (Desktop or Browser).

Go to Settings More options button  at the top right of Teams, and select Files and links>File open preference.

    Try disabling add-ins in Excel.

One possible reason is Excel open file with some file name twice.

    1. Check whether there is any file in this folder. If there is, back up it and delete it.

    1. If you want to open two files with same file name, rename one of them to another name to open both files.
    2. If issue persist, share more detailed steps to reproduce your issue.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I went to the AutoRecover file location and deleted everything.

Then, with Excel closed, I went to Teams to open a file from there and got the same error.

When I went back to the AutoRecover location one of the folders I had deleted and one file were there again. I deleted them again, tried the routine, got the error and when I went back to the location, the same folder and same file appeared again.

The folder is called XLSTART and it is empty.

There is also a file (outside the folder) called Excel15.xlb

    Any thoughts?
