One Note Notebook retrieval

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble accessing a personal OneNote notebook I created on another device. I'm getting this error message:

"We couldn't open that location. It might not exist or you might not have permission to open it. Please contact the owner of [link] for more information."

However, I am the owner of the notebook and I'm trying to access (on my new device) it using the same account it's associated with. Not sure how to overwrite this error.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any advice on how to troubleshoot this and access my notebook?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello, Mauricio Andrews

This indicates that the notebook is indeed no longer present in your account, but somehow it has not fully synchronized with the OneNote desktop app yet. If it was shared with you by someone else, please contact the owner.

If it’s a notebook you created yourself, try looking in the Recycle Bin on the OneDrive website, or attempt to restore a previous version of OneDrive (How to restore your OneDrive - Microsoft Support). If that still doesn’t work, then unfortunately, there’s no other solution, and you’ll have to start over.

Hello Yuhao, thank you for the reply. I am trying to locate my "Rethink Wealth" notebook on onedrive.live.com but can't seem to find it. I've looked under "documentos" where its suppose to be located but no luck yet. However, I can see it in my notebook on the One note app, but error message keeps coming up when I press on it. Do you know what I can do about this? or what other options do I have?

    Thank you!

    Hello, Mauricio Andrews

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

All your notebooks are saved in OneDrive. You can go to the OneDrive website (onedrive.live.com) and check if your notebooks are still there. If this is the case, you can select the file and click on the "Open in OneNote" option, usually at the top of the page, to open the file in the desktop app.

If you encounter any issues or the notebook doesn’t open, ensure that you’re signed in with the correct Microsoft account that has access to the notebook, both on OneDrive website and in OneNote desktop app. Also, check if your OneDrive storage isn’t full, as this could prevent notebooks from syncing properly.
