External users are not receiving verification codes from share links.

One of our clients has been having trouble accessing their shared content on OneDrive. We initially granted them access to the folder, but eventually they had trouble accessing everything. We resent a link for them to access their folder again, but they never received a verification code. They checked their spam, and junk folders and it was not there. I wanted to see if the problem was on their end and shared the link with myself using my personal email. I ran into the same issue: I received the email that the folder was shared with me, but never received an email with the verification code. I also checked my spam folders and it was not there. My clients need access to these folders to be able to see the data they need. Is there a way I could troubleshoot other ways as to why we aren't getting the verification access codes? It seems like it's an internal Microsoft issue.

Thanks,

Mason

    Hi Mason,

Thanks for posting in the community. We are happy to help you.

According to your description, I suggest you try the following suggestions on your end and then check again.

    1. Please open the InPrivate browser window, go to Outlook for Web (https://outlook.office.com/mail/), and check all emails in Inbox and Junk Email again. See if you can find the verification code email.
    2. Since the verification code email is from ******@sharepointonline.com, I suggest you go to add ******@sharepointonline.com as a contact in your personal account. After that, please click Send code and check again.

    Add a contact in Outlook

If the above suggestions don't help, it is likely caused by the backend. I have searched for existing service incidents and have not found any similar service incidents reported. Therefore, I suggest you report this problem to your tenant admin or IT team and have them raise a support ticket via Microsoft 365 Admin Center> Support> New service request. That support team there will have the correct channel and resources to help you investigate more and find what exactly the reason has caused this problem at the backend.

    Appreciate your understanding and patience.

    Sincerely,

    George | Microsoft Community Moderator
