Hello all,

I am in a pickle and kind of getting frustrated right now. I have been trying to uninstall MS SQL but when I hit F5 , it just shows up the instances/SQL files again in the control panel. Also SSMS is also failing to uninstall and gives me SSMS 0x80072f76 error.
Please I require help ASAP. TYIA.
Also: Do I need to open any ports from windows server for SQL server enterprise edition because the application I have been trying to install communicates with SQL port 1433. But I am constantly getting error of DB status in that application.

    Hi AreebFarqaleet-3214,
    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

it just shows up the instances/SQL files again in the control panel

Could you please share us the screenshot about SQL Server in the control panel?
Please make sure to go to Control Panel ->Programs and Features and right-click Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (Bit) and select Uninstall/Change->Remove.

Also SSMS is also failing to uninstall and gives me SSMS 0x80072f76 error.

Could you please try to repair SSMS by right-clicking SSMS in the Control Panel->Uninstall, then select Repair?
Here is an official tool which may help you automatically repair issues when you're blocked from installing or removing programs.

Do I need to open any ports from windows server for SQL server enterprise edition because the application I have been trying to install communicates with SQL port 1433.

If your app can connect to SQL Server, it means that the port has been opened. Please refer to this doc which might be helpful.

But I am constantly getting error of DB status in that application.

Could you please check if there are any error message in SQL Server error log which is located at Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL13. \MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG?

    Best Regards,
    Amelia
