Syncing issues - files won't upload

I recently loaded about 100 gig of files from an external hard drive to onedrive, via my MacBook Air 2022 M2 OS 14.5 (23F79). I have set the folders to "free up space" on my Mac and left the Mac switched on giving time to synchronise and copy the files to the Cloud. However, 11 days later, when I drill down into individual folders I can see that the content remains on my Mac and I can also see it is not online.

It's causing me to run out of disc space on the Mac. I've reinstalled one drive several times. Unlinking wouldn't be appropriate because that deletes local files and replaces from the cloud but I can't get my files to the cloud

There are no error messages. The onedrive app says it's "preparing to upload" but the icon in the tray (at the top right of my Mac) does not have the syncing icon.

Please help.

    Dear SallyN77

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community. Regarding the OneDrive synchronization issue you mentioned, I understand that you may be frustrated. It is highly likely that this issue is due to a network setup issue.

First of all, we recommend that you change the DNS: on MAC computers, you can make changes to confirm the network of DNS, but after you change the confirmation, regardless of whether you can log in normally, you need to change the corresponding information back again in: Desktop - System Preferences - Network - Select the network currently in use - Advanced - DNS - DNS servers in the lower left corner of the "+" sign in the lower left corner of the DNS server - only one DNS can be added (add 8.8.8.8) - click "OK" in the lower right corner after adding. Secondly, the common causes of OneDrive synchronization problems include unstable network, load on OneDrive server, etc. If you have followed the above steps to set up DNS but still encounter synchronization problems, you can consider the following solutions:

After completing the above steps, please log in to the web version of OneDrive(OneDrive.live.com) and check if the files have been uploaded properly. If you find that the files are still not synchronized, you can try the following actions:

    1. In the web version of OneDrive, find the "Upload" button in the upper left corner.
    2. Manually select the files or folders you want to upload.
    3. Begin the upload process and wait patiently for the file transfer to complete.
    4. After the upload is complete, check the file list again to make sure that the files are displayed correctly and that there are no anomalies.

If you encounter any problems during the process, or if the file still fails to upload properly, you are welcome to continue to consult with us, and we will be happy to provide you with further assistance.

Thank you for your support and understanding! Have a wonderful day!Best Regards,Maxine | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
