Excel- can't insert columns/rows, delete columns/rows only clears data

Hello, I'm having the following issue in specific workbooks, while other files are working as expected:

  • Inserting column/row does nothing
  • Deleting column/row only clears contents
    • Deleting column with existing columns to the right changes the column width of the last populated column to default width (8.43)
  • Attempts to delete which result in clearing cannot be undone ("can't undo")
  • No error messages, files otherwise working as expected

Files with issues have 10-15 tabs, less than 300 rows per tab, less than 25 columns per tab, use named ranges, are not linked to other files, and do not use macros.

I'm using Excel version 2403 (build 17425.20236). Please let me know if any additional info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ray

Thanks for the response! While creating a sample workbook the issues described above were not reproduced unless formatting was copied over. The source was narrowed down to Conditional Formatting on a few cells that was effecting the entire workbook (including different tabs). Strangely this conditional formatting had been in place for ~2 years but wasn't causing these problems until sometime in the last couple months. Ultimately issue resolved by removing the conditional formatting, and recreating the same rules did not recreate the issues.

Could you share a test workbook to reproduce your issue?

For sharing a sample workbook, upload to OneDrive or any other cloud drives. Then post a link here.

It seems bug. Several users meet same issue as you.

You may try pasting value only to new workbook.
