Excel: How to copy all data from protected workbook into a new workbook?

Hi there,

Im trying to copy all of the data from one protected worksheet into another blank workbook. However, whenever I select and copy the data it simply will not paste into the new worksheet. I have tried just right clicking on the worksheet and copying the data, however it returns "workbook is protected and cannot be changed". So, I then used Ctrl + A to select and copy the data but it still will not paste into the new worksheet. Any ideas for how to fix this and paste the data? Thank you in advance!

    Hi Julia Coy,

    Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.

From a design and security perspective, a protected worksheet is intended to prevent the protected data from being selected, copied, and modified.

If you are the owner of the worksheet, you can first remove the protection from the worksheet. When re-protecting the worksheet, ensure that both "Select locked cells" and "Select unlocked cells" are checked. This will allow the content to be selected and copied even when the worksheet is protected.

If you are not the owner of the worksheet and cannot remove the protection, it is recommended to communicate with the owner of the worksheet and discuss further actions.

I hope the above information clarifies the current situation. If you have any other circumstances that require further assistance, please explain your situation in your reply.

    Best Regards,
