    Hello TinaW412,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience of not being able to use custom dictionaries.

First I would like to know how the problem is after checking the following options.

    Use custom dictionaries

    1. On the Word tab, select Preferences.
    2. Under Authoring and Proofing Tools, select Spelling and grammar button in the Word Preferences dialog Spelling & Grammar.
Make sure the Suggest from main dictionary only check box is cleared.
    3. Select Dictionaries.
    4. In Custom Dictionaries, make sure the check box next to each custom dictionary to use is selected, and then select OK.

If the problem persists, could you provide a screenshot of the denied page so that we can better understand the issue, and it may also be helpful to let us know what version of Office for Mac you have.

How to check Office version: Open Word, go to the Word menu, and click About Word.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards,

Ian - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
