Word 2016 Table Caption Bug

Anonymous
2024-08-16T09:25:47+00:00

HW Environment: I7 32 Mb 1Tb SSD over half free

SW Environment: Win 10 (fully updated), Office 2016 working in English only

Problem:

When attempting to add a caption to a table, the caption dialogue jumps to some arbitrary place, the document content shows all selected and becomes locked against further writing. Exiting Word and returning to it with the same doc, shows it all selected and locked. The only "solution" is to try and cop/paste it to a new doc.

Additional notes:

  1. This only occurs in a doc several pages long with figures and tables.
  2. If you open a new doc, add a heading and a table, it does not happen.

This problem has only emerged over the last six months or so, suggesting that it may be related to a Windows 10 or Office 2016 update.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

    Thanks for the update.

I am not seeing an issue here (Microsoft 365 subscription, version 2407, running on Windows 11) with comments in long documents which indicates an issue that is specific to Word 2016.

If you want to, you can share a problem document. Fill it with nonsense text and nothing important. We just need a doc that illustrates the problem.

Do you see this in all of your long documents? Or is the issue document-specific?
