Cannot calculate columns with imported data.

I have imported data from excel to lists. When I attempt to make a new column and select calculated type it shows an error and won’t let me progress. This is the case with new columns and when trying to apply a calculated format to pre-existing columns. How do I correct this please?

    Hi Rebecca Scobie,

As per the description, I understand that you meet some error when trying to add a new column as calculated type in a SharePoint list created from a workbook. Please correct me if I made any misunderstanding.

From my tests, it seems like I failed to reproduce a same behavior. In this situation, to make sure I can get the better understanding of the scenario happened on your side, could you please share me some details as required below?

    1. Please create a new blank list and see if new columns can be created as calculated type.
    2. If other site members will see the same error when they try to add a column to calculated type.
    3. If the issue persists, please share the screenshots of the error that prevented you progress.

If it happens only on the list imported from the workbook and the issue persists even repeat to create a new list, you may share me the workbook and I will help to test on my side to further investigate. Here I created a private channel for you: Private Messages - Microsoft Community

Appreciate your time and patience. Hope you a nice day and stay safe!

    Best Regards,

    Mia
