    Hi L Ngcobo (22266201),

    Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.

This seems to be a recent hot issue concentrated in Office applications. Please try downgrading to an earlier version to see if it resolves the issue.

    Follow the steps below:

    • Close all Office programs.
    • Open Command Prompt as administrator (Windows + R, type cmd, right-click select Command Prompt, run as administrator) and enter the following command there:

    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\officec2rclient.exe"/update user updatetoversion=16.0.17531.20120

    • Restart your PC.
    • This installs an older version of Microsoft 365 and no update can be performed until the error is fixed. Disable the corresponding option in Word 365, File, Account, Update Options, Disable Updates.

I look forward to your feedback on this matter.

    Best Regards,

Jonathan Z - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
