Why do you lock threads?

Most of the time when I go to Microsoft Community I find the solutions they come with completely useless.

I can report that, but when I then find the solution myself, I cannot enter that. Becaus the thread is "locked".

Why is that. Why do you keep your platform useless. To annoy your users?

    Hi

The purpose is to keep the forum relevant to current software releases. Microsoft issues Office updates to features and bug fixes monthly. You apparently tried to reply to a thread about a version no longer in use, so you were blocked from replying on the assumption that most likely you are using a new version of Office and your reply would not be relevant to the old version question you attempted to respond to.

You are always free to post a question or start a discussion about the version you have, even if it is older. It's always best to specify which version of Microsoft Office on which version of Mac OS you have when you post a question or comment. You can display the version of Microsoft Office you use by going to the Menu Bar in Excel and choosing Excel > About Microsoft Excel.

The forum automatically locks threads after a few months have gone by. Before this feature was enacted it was always a major problem with people posting questions and getting conflicting answers for versions they did not have.
