Excel Error

Error says: Excel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas. As a result, these formulas cannot be evaluated.

Every keystroke, this error pops up and I have to keep clicking on "okay". Next keystroke, same thing. I can't work like this. Any ideas?

Thank you so much, Thomas - it worked!! I appreciate the instructions you sent to me, I followed them exactly and it did solve the problem with Excel. I do have one question though - how will I know when Microsoft releases the fix patch?

Thank you for sharing the test results with me. As we receive more feedback, we believe this issue might be caused by an Office version patch. Please try the following method to roll back your Office version to see if it resolves the issue:

    1. Ensure all running Office applications are closed.
    2. Press the Windows key, search for "Command Prompt", right-click it and select "Run as administrator".
    3. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
       cd %programfiles%\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun

    4. Then, enter the below command to initiate Office update:
       OfficeC2RClient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17531.20120

    5. After rolling back the version, please open any Office application, click on File, then Account, and under Update Options, disable Office auto-update until Microsoft releases a fix patch.

We look forward to your reply. Regardless of whether this method is effective, this thread will be provided as evidence to the development team.

Well, I disabled 'Enable multi-threaded calculation' and then restarted my computer, opened Excel and the error message came up again.

Our Excel is version 2411. We renewed our Microsoft 365 in April 2024. I have not used a web service-based function to my knowledge. I use Excel to manage our monthly budget and have never had anything like this happen before. Thank you for responding, I will try the potential solution you provided and hopefully it will help. I'll respond to you again and let you know.

    Hi Terri Cortes,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

This is a recent hot issue. Have you been using any web service-based functions in your workbook, such as WEBSERVICE or STOCKHISTORY? Recently, many users have reported the same error message, and the common factor is the use of similar web service functions. We would like to confirm this with you.

Additionally, what is your Office version? You can check this by opening the Excel application > File > Account. This issue could be influenced by a version update patch. We need to gather some information to report to the development team.

The support team is aware of this issue and is currently investigating and writing a report. Meanwhile, we are working with users to explore some temporary solutions.

Below is a potential solution that has worked for a small number of users; you might want to give it a try:

Open the Excel application > File > Options > Advanced > scroll down to find and disable 'Enable multi-threaded calculation'.

This issue may be the result of inconsistencies between the multithreaded processor and Excel itself.

I hope my explanation helps you understand the current situation regarding the issue you are facing, and I look forward to your reply!

    Best Regards,
