I had auto-save on my Word document, but my Word app randomly deleted and I lost several hours of work and edits from my professor.

Hi Goodman Madeline,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

Go to Finder, then click Go > Go to Folder, and enter the following path (please replace the <username> with your own username):

/Users/<username>/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery

AutoRecover is typically an automatic protection mechanism triggered when Office applications crash unexpectedly, so there's a chance you might find your data.

Additionally, you can consider logging into OneDrive for the web and try restoring your entire OneDrive to a few hours earlier to see if you can recover your data: Restore your OneDrive - Microsoft Support

If none of the above methods can help you find your lost data, this means your data was not saved locally or on the OneDrive client. At this point, you can contact the OneDrive team to see if they have any ways to help you recover the data from their servers.

I hope you can recover your data.

Best Regards,

Thomas C - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
