I've been having issues saving settings in Microsoft 365, specifically when managing group permissions and visibility. These include:

Granting permissions to members.

Enabling external users.

Changing the group mailbox from private to public.

Hiding the team email group from Outlook's Global Address List (GAL).

Please help on this.

Hello IT581,

Good day. Thank you for posting in the community!

Sincere apologies for any inconvenience this issue might be causing you. To address the issues you're facing with managing group permissions and visibility in Microsoft 365, please follow the below:

To grant permissions to members within a Microsoft 365 group, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Select "Groups" from the left-hand menu.
  3. Choose the specific group you want to manage.
  4. Add Members:
    • Click on "Members" and then select "Add Members."
    • Search for and select users you want to add, then click "Save."
  5. Assign Roles:
    • Navigate to "Settings" within the group settings.
    • Here, you can assign roles, such as whether a member can edit group settings or manage membership.

To enable external users to access your Microsoft 365 group, you must ensure the following settings are configured:

  1. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, navigate to "Groups."
  2. Select the group you wish to modify.
  3. Click on "Settings."
  4. Turn on “Allow external members” to permit users outside your organization to join the group.

******Please ensure that your organization's external sharing policy allows for this.

To change the setting of a Microsoft 365 group's mailbox from private to public:

  1. Access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Go to “Groups” and select the group.
  3. Navigate to the "Settings" tab.
  4. Locate the option for "Privacy."
  5. Switch the setting from "Private" to "Public."
  6. Confirm your changes.

******This allows all users in the organization to view the emails and files in the group mailbox.

To hide a Microsoft 365 group from the Global Address List (GAL):

  1. Log into the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Select “Groups,” and then choose the specific group.
  3. Click on "Settings."
  4. Find the option for “Hide from address lists.”
  5. Enable this setting to prevent the group from appearing in the GAL.

******This ensures that only specified users can access the group's email address.

By following the above steps, you should be able to effectively manage group permissions and visibility issues in Microsoft 365. If problems persist, we recommend that you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and follow the steps in this article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/admin/get-help-support?view=o365-worldwide&tabs=online#online-support to create a support ticket to Microsoft.
