I am getting verification codes for my login from a Namibia number instead of Microsoft labelled number. Why is this happening?

    Dear AB_117

Good day! Thank you for reaching out!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with verification code going to another number.

Receiving verification codes from an unexpected number can be concerning. Here are a few possible reasons and steps you can take to address this issue:

    Update Security Information:

    • Go to your Microsoft account security settings and review your security info. Make sure all phone numbers and email addresses listed are correct and up to date.

    Use Authenticator App:

    • Consider using the Microsoft Authenticator app for verification codes instead of SMS. This can provide a more secure and consistent experience.

If you continue having this issue and you have administrative privileges, you may change phone number through Azure portal. If you are not an Admin, you can contact your M365/IT administrator to reset MFA for you through the Azure admin portal. In the Azure portal, the administrator can reset your number, he can remove your old number and resister new one. The admin can also add the number for you through the portal or give you another authentication method.

Thanks for your precious time and stay safe!

Thank you so much for your reply.

Just confirming that numbers should only be from Microsoft labelled number and not any other number (such as from Namibia - +264 number).
