Conditional formatting not working in the Sharepoint List.

Hello everyone,

I have 2 columns in my Sharepoint list and I am trying to conditionally format the second column to only display when the answer to the question in the first column is "Yes" (it's a choice type column with options for Yes and No).

My formula is getting accepted, and the second column is hidden when I add a new entry to my list, but it does not then get displayed despite choosing "Yes" in my first question.

Here is my formula : =if([$Invention_Disclosure_Submitted]=='Yes', 'true', 'false')

My first column name is Invention_Disclosure_Submitted.

What am I doing wrong here? I tried multiple ways, by renaming columns to a single worded title, but all fails.

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

    Dear Sakshi Powade,

Thanks for writing back and updating with us. Our sincere apologies for taking time to reply you back because I was working on your scenario with the different tenants.

As per the further updates, I would like to convey that there is no issue from my end when using the same formula provided in your original post.

In this situation, I would like to confirm whether the same problem happens in the InPrivate or Incognito window:

Open the Google Chrome browser> Click on the three dots at the top right> Click on the New Incognito window> Access your SharePoint Online site with the problematic List and check the outcome.

If there is no issue, then please clear the cache and cookies of your browser and try to sign-in back to check the outcome.

If the same problem happens even in the InPrivate or Incognito window, then I believe the column with the Conditional Formula is corrupted. So, I request you to delete the conditional formula applied on the column and re-add the conditional formula to see the outcome.

If the same problem persists, then I am sorry to convey that you need to create a new column and apply the same conditional formula on the newly created column. If it works without any issue, please delete the corrupted column and continue to use the newly created column.

If any of the suggestions provided above helped your scenario, I request you to please mark this reply by voting your valuable vote to the reply as it will help other members in this community with the similar requirement to find the answers quickly:

In the future, if you have any further concerns related to Office 365, please feel free to post a new thread in this community and we will try our best to assist you.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Dear User,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and I would like to convey that I have tested the behavior at my end, where I am able to reproduce the same behavior when using the Yes/Nocolumn in the Conditional Formula.

So, I would like to confirm whether you are using Yes/No column type in the List. If yes, I would like to suggest you to change the column type of Yes/No column to the Choice column, and set the choice values as Yes & No:

Steps to change the Column type: Click on the Yes/No column> Column Settings> Edit> At the type, select Choice> Enter your choices as Yes, No> Click on Save button:

Now, the result in the List or List edit form will be looks like below:

    If Yes is selected:

    If no is selected:

If there is any misunderstanding or confusion, we apologize and request you to share the more detailed information with some screenshots which will help us to better understand and guide you further.

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Hello Sophia,

Thank you so much for your reply and your help.

    This finally worked!!

I deleted my existing columns, cleared cache + cookies, opened the browser in incognito mode, re-added the columns and put in the formula once more. You fixed it!

Thank you so much for your help!!

    Hello Sophia,

Thanks for your quick reply and your assistance, I appreciate it.

Yes, I mentioned in the first sentence in the bracket that (it's a choice type column with options for Yes and No), so I have already set up column Invention_Disclosure_Submitted in the type choice.

I will attach a screenshot for you to check. There are only two options in it, Yes and No. This condition formatting is hiding the second column I need hidden, but not showing it when I select "Yes".

What else might be going wrong here?

    Thanks for your help
