Hi Tulip. Huong,
Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.
Perhaps you have some misunderstandings about how conditional formatting and formulas work in Excel. What I need to explain is that what you observe is all normal behavior.
- Why conditional formatting does not work after copying and pasting: Conditional formatting operates based on the workbook file; that is, conditional formatting is an attribute of an Excel workbook and is bound to the current workbook, operating independently of cell formatting. Therefore, when you copy cells to another workbook, the original workbook's conditional formatting will not be carried over to the new workbook.
- Regarding issues with formulas: Excel Online is browser-based, whereas the Excel desktop application is a Windows application that is already packaged. When you try to copy rows directly from the Excel desktop application, you are actually decoding the entire row of cells, but this decoded data can only be recognized by the same Excel desktop application, and Excel Online cannot recognize this data.
If you want to copy an entire row of cells from one Excel workbook to another, the correct approach should be to open both files in the same client, and then use copy and paste to transfer the data, rather than copying and pasting across different clients.
I hope my explanation makes sense.
