Constraint Bug

Hi

Product: Project for the Web

I have 4 tasks with a Start Dat and an End Date next Monday (19th August). However I noticed that the icon on one of the Tasks in Board view was different to the others (it had a small star). Google led me to say this was a Constrained Task whilst the others were not. On checkin each task I discovered in the malevolent one that every time I removed the Constraint the Start Date would go to the project start date (many months ago) and every time I set the start and finish to next Monday it would become a Constrained Task again. It also results in silly duration times being set which make no sense.

To add to the confusion - I have a PBI Project Task listing linked to Project which works amazing - however the new 'Constrined' tasks do not appear on the Project Task listing - what is going on here?

I may have discovered the issue - when you create a task from the '+ Add Task' button and select a Finish date at this point - these are the errant Tasks. However, when you create a Task, dont enter a Finish date until you can see the full task screen whereby you can put Start, Finish etc etc. - these all appear to be bahiaving and appear on my PBI report perfectly. Now I have to go and find all of the constrained/quick add Tasks that mightnt be appearing on my report.

    Raymond KcKeown2,

Unfortunately I don't have or use Project for the web but directly entering start or finish dates for a task will automatically generate a constraint. And if there are no task dependencies (i.e. no predecessor link), removing the constraint will cause the task to automatically slide back to the Project Start date.

As far as I know, all versions of Project share this basic functionality.
