I am suddenly unable to open Word or Excel on my PC, although I can continuer to use One Drive, message quotes error code 0x426-0x0. I have tried "Repair" in settings but that has not solved the problem. Neither has clicking on Reset. I am uncertain as to how best to proceed. If I read the instructions correctly, my next step is to uninstall Microsoft 365 (Office). I just want to verify that once reinstalled, will my individual files still be accessible in the new apps?

I understand that you are getting Microsoft Office error code 0x426-0x0 when you try to open Word, Excel. this is due to corrupted Office installations, disabled services, and antivirus software conflicts.

    You can try the following:

    1. First, press win+R to open Run Accessories. windowsR
    2. Type the following command and click ok .

    Hello, Mike Hardin

I'm here to update again about the solution to this problem.

The method in my first reply you can follow the steps in this link:

There are also two other methods you can try:

    1. Enable the Click-to-Run service

    1. Open the Run accessory by pressing the Windows key + R.
    2. Type this command in Run and press Enter:
      services.msc Image
    3. Next, right-click the Microsoft Office Click-to-Run service and select Properties.

    4. Click the Startup type drop-down menu on the properties window that opens, select the Automatic option, then click the Start option.
      Image
    5. Select Apply to save the changed settings, then click OK to exit the properties window.

    2. Reinstall Microsoft Office

    1. Open the Run accessory by pressing the Windows key + R.
    2. Type the command below and hit Enter.
      appwiz.cpl
      Image
    3. Select your MS Office suite software and click Uninstall to remove the suite.
    4. Restart Windows after you’ve uninstalled MS Office.
    5. Click File Explorer’s Taskbar icon, navigate to your Microsoft Office folder, and delete any leftover files.
      C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
    6. Open the Run accessory by pressing the Windows key + R, Type the command below, and hit Enter.regedit
    7. Navigate to the paths below, and for each of them, right-click and select delete.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\AppVISV
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
    8. After that, reinstall the Microsoft Office suite.

    Best wishes

Your step #3 above doesn't make sense.

I do not see Microsoft Office Suite. The pictures below step #2 and step #3 are identical.

I installed Microsoft Office Suite several years ago from a "one-time use" code.

If I remove the software, I am unable to resinstall.

I installed Microsoft Office Suite several years ago from a "one-time use" code.

If I remove the software, I am unable to resinstall.

Which is the specific product name that you see in the list of installed applications?
