OneNote keeps crashing

I have the 2016 version of One Note installed on my Surface Pro 6. It crashes at least once a day and often multiple times a day to the point where the app is completely unusable for me. I'm a university student and have been using the app since 2018. This issue has started in recent months and it seems to align with when I opened a new notebook when i started my masters degree. I've tried deleting the cache, repairing the app, deleting and redownloading the office apps on my computer and even trying to use the notebook online (it also crashes). None of these solutions has worked for me. Any help would be really appreciated!

    Dear Alex,

    Good day to you!

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft community. We will be happy to help you.

Based on your description, you are having OneNote crashes issue. As you mentioned you tried clear cache, repairing the app, delete and reinstall the Office apps.

According to your scenario, I would provide some suggestion that may help you –

    1. I recommend you to perform clean boot. On the windows search bar search “msconfig> system configuration will appear > on the services tab click on Hide all Microsoft services then select apply > On the startup tab select Open Task manager > Select the item and then select Disable > close the Task Manager > On the start app select OK”.
    2. Disable Add-ins.
    3. I would suggest you copy the content from the affected notebook and close it, then open OneNote Web, create a new notebook and paste the copied content.
    4. Click on Editing dropdown and click “Open in Desktop”. Please check whether OneNote keeps crashing.

Meanwhile, I would like to know few things that would be more convenient to identify your issue –

    1. As mentioned, notebook online also crashes, which means the browser also crashes?
    2. Are you having issue with all notebooks?
    3. Could you please share with us Office application version? Open any office application > click on file > click on Account.

Note: If you take a screenshot, please hide your email address.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Sincerely
