I was editing a powerpoint presentation in Chrome, but needed a feature that was only available in powerpoint app. When i tried signing in to my account in the app it said my school license is no longer active. Now i'm confused.

To use the Microsoft 365 Education application, you need to have the latest version of the Office desktop license which are only available in Office 365 A3 or Office 365 A5. I suggest you first go to https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=MeControl#subscriptions to see if you have such a license assigned to your account.
If no, you won't be able to use the Office desktop clients.
I think you received the Office 365 A1 Plus license earlier. If yes, on August 1, 2024, all existing Office 365 A1 Plus licenses have expired. Therefore, you will encounter the problem when using the Office desktop clients.

The license assignment and the account are managed by the tenant administrator in your tenant. If you have no the latest version of the Office desktop license assigned, I suggest you contact your school administrator and confirm if they have plans to purchase the Microsoft 365 A3 or A5 license or another version of the Office apps for you to move forward.
