Folder names are automatically changing for linked files on Sharepoint

I have a file A that links to file B in the "August" folder. Once i create a copy of file A into a new month's folder for September but in the same SharePoint folder, it updates the path link for file B from August to September automatically. Since file B is not in the September folder, it does not open or have the link in place. Why is excel automatically changing the folder name? See below screenshot

I cant upload screenshots due to upload restrictions but the path names are pasted below

Link in my August file =xxxxxxxx/Documents/xxxxxx/OSOS/2024-25/05. August 2024/Submissions/[Forecast - Aug 2024.xlsx]forecast'!W234

Link automatically changes to September folder

=xxxxxxxx/Documents/xxxxxx/OSOS/2024-25/06. September 2024/Submissions/[Forecast - Aug 2024.xlsx]forecast'!W234

    Hi RohitBah,

I tried to deploy some tests to better investigate the scenario you are facing, but it seems like the linked file path is not same as yours. May I confirm if all workbooks are saved in a SharePoint site with document folders naming August and September? Please correct me if I'm in the wrong way.

Meanwhile, I have opened the private message channel for you and give it a try if you can successfully upload images from there so that we can troubleshoot this scenario more efficiently to save your time. Click: Private Messages - Microsoft Community

    Best Regards,

    Can someone help with this?

    As an example:

    • Destination file A is in folder 05, August 2024 with a link to a source file called file B in same folder 05. August 2024.
    • I then create a copy of destination file A in a new folder called 06. September 2024.
    • When i open this newly copied file, instead of keep the link to file B as is, i.e. in folder 05. August 2024 it changes the path to try and read it from folder 06. September. The file obviously does not exist in this new folder so when i try to open the file directly from the link in the cell it shows an error
