Exchange email archiving auto enabled itself

Exchange auto archiving of emails has been re-enabled and had been disabled for over a year. Why has it suddenly been enabled again ? Please can you investigate why this has suddenly just happened, without me making any changes ?

It is unclear what the default policies are doing in terms of auto archiving and this confuses the matter further.

Hello Elaiyen

Good day and thanks for reaching out

Based on the feedback, I believe it would be beneficial to escalate this matter to Microsoft's support team for advance troubleshooting. They specialize in advanced troubleshooting techniques and have the expertise necessary to delve deeper into the root cause of the issue. Microsoft's back-end support team should collect some more advanced log information from your account through a remote session to diagnose the current scenario.

Please keep in mind as a forum supporter, we do not have sufficient permissions and resources to conduct research directly. We recommend that you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and follow the steps in this article Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn **** to create a support ticket to Microsoft Teams to investigate further.

You can also call Microsoft support via- Global Customer Service phone numbers - Microsoft Support,

Note: If you are an end-user person, you may need to contact the Office 365 Global Administrator in your business organization to contact a Technical Support Engineer for further processing.

Important: If any of your organization's Office 365 Business/Business/Education subscriptions are from a federated partner or reseller and the global admin can't open a service request on their end, they may need to contact the reseller's support provider so they can help the global admin open the service request on their end. After that, the Office 365 support team will participate in the service request that was created.

Thank you very much for your valuable time in your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Bertrand

I know Microsoft said they would start auto archiving emails over 2 years old but that was back in March.

It would be useful to know if this was a Microsoft. I have had a number of users over the past 2 weeks say emails have started to Auto Archive.

What was the outcome from this?

Can you confirm if this was Microsoft enabled?

    Hello **** Elaiyen

Good day and hope you are doing well.

It appears you have an issue with exchange email auto archiving enabling itself. There could be several reasons why auto archive enabled itself. To

better assist you, we need more information on the issue.

    1. Have there been any recent updates or changes to your Exchange server or your email environment, such as system updates, configuration changes, or software upgrades?
    2. Can you confirm the current settings and policies for auto-archiving in your Exchange environment? Are you using the default retention policies or custom ones?
    3. Have you checked the settings in both the Exchange Admin Center (EAC) and the Outlook client to ensure they align with your expectations?
    4. Is the auto-archiving issue affecting all users or just specific ones? If specific, which users are impacted?
    5. Have you checked the audit logs or event logs in Exchange to see if there are any entries that indicate changes to auto-archiving settings or policies?
